For example, corruption, discrimination, bullying and harassment, can be within you and spill over into the business. And in the same way, so can integrity, honesty, dignity and respect spill over from you into a business.

Who is Jenny Breakey?

As an HR and People Expert, and a former HR Executive & Director across multiple industries, I have a gift to be able to help those who want to see and grow beyond business academia. There is always hope for transformation to take place within our personal and professional lives, and within Best Businesses globally, regardless of how big or small they are, or what industry they are in. And of course, this applies to both brick and mortar businesses as well as online businesses.

Quantum Shifts occur within ourselves and businesses when we look at the minutia within that could be possible stumbling blocks that prevent us from moving forward in graceful humility. We need to resolve to change that which needs to be changed with integrity, honesty and respect. ‘Quantum’ refers to the most basic of building blocks, and once we have identified what needs to change within ourselves or in our businesses, and we have clarified the root cause of the problem (yes, just like doing a root cause analysis check-in on yourself and your business), will we be able start the process of change.

Only then will we experience Wellness Within – within ourselves and within businesses.

There is something about this photo that draws me in. Could it be that the lights are mesmerizing, calling me in, or perhaps the hub of activity that I feel pulsating from the screen.

Unless workers are not diligent in switching off the lights in the evening, there are just simply far too many lights on, but if you factor in night shifts; that could be a reasonable explanation.

I am drawn into the pull of this city, and I wonder, who are these people so diligently working at night? What stories could they share with me?

There is so much information (some great, and some questionable) that you can find on how to transform your life and business through multi-variant mediums. Whether it be through 1:1 coaching, or taking an online course, or attending live events, you need to find the one that resonates with what you need and that compliments your own personal circumstances. I have tried all of the above and I came to realize that the wisdom we all need to transform our lives, actually is within us. The problem with this though, is that the noise, chaos and uncertainty of the world drowns out our own inner wisdom, and doubt, fear and a lack of confidence also erodes away at our ability to sit quietly with a question that we could so easily find the answer to within ourselves. There is always a place for medical intervention, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists, but you do need to know when it is time to move on from these sessions, as they so easily subtly be a crutch that we are too scared to let go of, because we don’t believe in ourselves. And that’s okay. Ask your medical professional to let you know when you can either (a) increase the times between sessions, thereby giving you extended time to self-reflect a lot more on your own, or (b) when you or they believe you are able to stop seeing them entirely as you now have the tools and techniques to keep moving forward in your life and career/business. The beauty of this all is that you can always go and see them for a check-in once every so often, if that makes you more comfortable.

What helped me in my personal and professional life, is a commitment to empowering myself to live from my core, that inner part of me where my wisdom can be found, and to know that it is okay to ask for help along the way. I want to say I have seen it all, but I don’t believe that would be true. However, I certainly have seen a lot more than many when it comes to seeing just how debilitating mental and emotional health can be in your career and business, and I have seen this at all levels within an organization. Don’t let that put you off. Believe in the change you want to be. I could have saved myself decades of tumultuous times, if I had just been aware of how debilitating mental and emotional trauma can have on our lives. I could not see that the emotional and mental turmoil that I experienced in 2013 would cause me so much heartache, stress, anxiety, and the inability to be 100% focused mentally and emotionally, in my personal and professional life. I experienced two losses that were so hard for me to carry, yet I had to push the grief down, and just stay focused on work, and also helping my late father who was going through his own agony of the loss of his wife of 42 years, and his best friend. I moved in with him the following year – for a period of about 8 months, just to help him adjust. All of this change and mental and emotional trauma was real, yet I did not seek out help at the time, as I was not able to see it for what it was. You might be able to relate to this, but having a breakdown was just never on the cards for me. I had to hold it together for those closest to me, whilst doing myself some serious harm in the coming years. This harm was based on poor decisions and choices, and yet would have a profound impact on my life. After almost a decade, I am finally able to say that I am grateful for all the lessons I have learnt, both the good and the bad. I hope you can find that peace and joy within you too.
