Wellness from Within
Wellness, and absolutely everything, is within us, and we are connected to it all. This means that we are not separate from anyone or anything, but we are connected. You might have heard the term oneness, meaning unified or referring to wholeness.
Not one of us has the same interpretation of an experience that someone else does. I have 7 siblings and although we have had similar experiences, we interpreted these based on varying factors. Our age, emotional and mental acuity at the time of the experience, our own feelings, which all played a part in the way we interpreted our world around us. We then took these interpretations and they became patterns of reactions and actions in our lives that takes what seems a lifetime to change.
Whether we accept it or not, discriminatory factors such as biases regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, intellectual capacity, money, looks, marital status, and so much more, run so deep within us, that we are often not even aware they are there.
There are many who fight for equality, dignity, and respect for everyone.
But can we win by fighting, or are the words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., words that we should inscribe in our hearts?
‘Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.‘
Is this not a better way to bring about change? I believe it is.
For a very long time I was one of those people who was determined to climb the corporate ladder, to make loads of money, to live a rich and rewarding life, and I was also someone who tried to do everything with integrity, dignity and respect to all. However, it was only well into my career that I saw first hand, as a former HR Director and Executive, that many executives were competent on their IQ scale but lacking in the EQ department (emotional quotient/intelligence).
Life as we know it would be so different if executive leaders and leaders at all levels, within government, businesses and other ventures, had values such as compassion, honesty, respect, integrity, dignity, self-awareness, and transparency. This will not only effect their own lives, but the lives of all those in their circle of influence.
Leaders lead from the front, practicing what they preach, and setting examples for others to follow. I often wonder if our business leaders and politicians, and leaders in all walks of life, actually take the time to do the work required for them to let go of their personal biases and discriminations. If this were the case, would there be disgruntled employees? If this were the case, would politicians not campaign for their election based on ethical service to those who would be under their governance? And, if this were the case, would so much harm, corruption, greed, and continuous fighting and wars, become something of the past?
Love Yourself
Time to get real. If I heard someone talking about loving myself and trying to get me to buy into their definition of what love is, my emotions got adversely triggered. I don’t like being force-fed other people’s ideological, religious and/or spiritual views, beliefs and opinions on love. All I wanted was an open mind to experience love for myself. I wanted to feel it flow through every cell in my body. However, what I found was that thoughts of my past, present and future, kept getting in the way. Eventually I just gave up and said, ‘to hell with this. If I cannot experience love for myself, then I will accept that and let it be.’ And that is more or less when things started to change for me. I have since learnt to:
- love and forgive myself, no matter what
- release fear, guilt, anxiety, shame, depression and worry
- let go of past hurts and anxiety for the future
- release toxicity from my life
- build personal resilience and experience self-expansion
- remove obstacles standing between me and love
- know who I truly am
- work on my emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing
Once I started figuring this out, I was able to welcome love into my life. You can have this too. All it takes is a little willingness to try. But don’t take my word for it, try this for yourself and let it become an experiential journey of your own truth back to love.
