Who's it For?

This online school has been created primarily with the following people in mind:

  1. employers and stakeholders
  2. executives and leaders
  3. employees and manager

The Online School for Best Businesses was born through my somewhat surprising experiences while working as a leader in the workplace. What I saw really astounded, and sometimes even dumbfounded me. Now we all know that humans are fallible (to err is human). I also know that not everyone is EQ savvy, and that some people need to work extra hard at learning this skillset if you want to advance in your career and grow, or be a part of, a long-term successful business. What I saw was this:

  1. how egos played out in the boardroom
  2. how executives had very little EQ skills, and treated staff (managers and employees alike) with disrespect
  3. how colleagues could truly be cruel to one another, through speaking behind people’s backs, bullying, openly being aggressive and marginalizing people
  4. how deeply personal bias and discrimination ran throughout the organizations
  5. how employees feared to speak up, and even trying to hide errors because of being scared of what could happen
  6. …. and on and on the list could go

Now it must be said that this was not always case, but evident it was in every single business I ever worked in.

I remember a time when my office was right next to the Managing Director’s office, and one day I heard him screaming at a manager who I knew was already a timid and non-confrontational manager, yet he always gave of his best. When the manager left the MD’s office, I promptly went into his office, closed the door, and sat across the desk from him. (It should be pointed out at this stage that this was a person that almost everyone in the company was afraid of, and my predecessor had left the position because she was not able to work with him because of this.) He looked straight at me, still red in his face with whatever had angered him, and told me that he had no time for therapy. I simply looked back at him and said, yes, you have the time, and no, I would not invoice him separately for this session (which was a joke of course). I went on to explain why his behavior simply could not continue. He did listen to me and he took what I said to heart. The strange thing was, he had the same apprehension towards the person he answered to, which just did not make sense to me, but it was something I was able to eventually help him work through.

After looking back at all the campfire stories I could tell you, I realized that if this was something I was experiencing at the most senior of levels within an organization, just how many other organizations had the same issues? How many executives, leaders and management needed EQ, listening and other forms of training to equip them to skillfully master their jobs, and just how many employees were being abused and not being able to speak up for themselves.

And so I decided, enough is enough – I can make a difference. I can extend lessons learnt to all those in businesses and individuals who need it. It might be you who needs the assistance, or a friend or a colleague. Either way, there is hope and there is help. I endeavor to help you wherever I can, just know that you have a voice of your own, and you have rights that protect you in the workplace. Learn them!

The school addresses problems head-on, without any compromise – unapologetically and unashamedly ethical.

It deals head-on with difficult people, through effective communication skills, but most importantly, it helps businesses thrive in a time when jobs are becoming more and more automated (thank you AI), and when there will eventually be more people in the marketplace looking for work than there will be jobs for them to find. This is not to instill fear, it is to awaken you to the fact that to be a sought after employee or employer, you will need to learn some new skills and ways of behaving, if you are going to want longevity in your workplace.

The school also teaches you how to have those awkward conversations that most people try and avoid.

For the sake of your own career growth, and the sustainable growth of your business, you need to ensure that you and your business are both operating at your full potential, and one of the best ways to do this is to equip yourself with as much knowledge, practical and experiential learning, and to learn from those who have actually done the work themselves, so that you don’t have to go through the same pain in the workplace.

If you want to build your best business, then I am sure you do not need to be told that this will not just magically happen. You need to find a workspace where you can be focused on what you want, why you want it, how you are going to achieve it, and when you will launch and/or open your business. You also need to have a space where you can learn, find some really helpful tools and techniques, and get supportive input from others who understand your needs.

The intention of The Online School for Best Businesses, is to create a community where connections can be forged in the understanding that everyone is committed to building their best business. No matter where you are in the world, and where you get to map out your business blueprint, or where you find what works for you, continue to put in the effort to reap the rewards – this has a positive ripple effect all around you.
